This week, Lincoln County Schools welcomed bestselling children’s author Gianna Marino to several of our schools, including Battleground Elementary School!
Students had the opportunity to hear from the author behind beloved books such as Meet Me at the Moon, Too Tall Houses, and Night Animals. Through storytelling, illustration, and engaging conversations, students were inspired to read, write, and use their imaginations.

Summer, sunshine, and a 5K for a great cause!
Join NextGen United for the Summer Sun & Racing Fun 5K on Saturday, June 6 at 8:00 a.m. at Betty G. Ross Park in Lincolnton. Participants can run or walk while helping raise money for UWLC’s community fund, which supports outreach programs, emergency assistance for families in crisis, tutoring support, and more.
Participants will receive:
• Race shirt
• Summer-themed goodies
• Novant Health giveaway items
• Fun surprises along the route
Awards will be given for overall male and female runners, top runners in age groups, best summer fun costume, and more!

The TexTEC Camp at Gaston College gives rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors hands-on experiences in textile technology, chemistry, engineering, sustainability, biomedical textiles, composites, color science, and more.
Students will work in labs, connect with faculty and current students, explore scholarship opportunities, and even screen print their own fabric.

Congratulations to North Lincoln High School senior Jake Jacobs on his appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, one of the nation’s five federal service academies.
Jake earned this prestigious appointment through a highly competitive nomination process and was nominated by Congressman Pat Harrigan and Senator Thom Tillis. He is one of approximately 280 appointees selected from nearly 1,800 applicants worldwide.
At the academy, Jake will major in Marine Engineering while continuing his athletic career as a member of the USMMA Mariners lacrosse team. After graduation, he will commission as a naval officer with dreams of becoming a Navy aviator.
We are proud of Jake’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving others, and we wish him continued success as he joins the Class of 2030.

The next stop was Lincolnton High School, where Brett Bowen was surprised as Assistant Principal of the Year.

Eight big announcements are coming tonight!
Today, district leaders boarded a bus and traveled across Lincoln County to surprise and celebrate eight outstanding employees during our annual “Of the Year” recognition tour.
Our first stop was Pumpkin Center Primary School, where Mrs. Mallory Elks was named Teacher of the Year. She was also surprised with a car and a $1,000 check from Chris Rhyne Financial.
Next, the celebration continued at East Lincoln Middle School, where Angela Isenhour was recognized as Child Nutrition Employee of the Year and Lori Fisher was named Media Coordinator of the Year.
The tour then visited G.E. Massey Elementary School, where Tonya Johnson was surprised as the Support Employee of the Year.

Success checklist:
• Get a good night’s sleep
• Arrive at school on time
• Eat a healthy breakfast (at home or at school)
• Dress comfortably (within dress code)
Electronics reminder: To ensure a secure testing environment, cell phones, smartwatches, wireless headphones, and other electronic devices must be powered off and stored away as directed by your school or left at home. Per state guidelines, students found with a device during testing will be dismissed from the testing session.
