✨ Last week across LCS, students and staff showed us the power of courage, creativity, and leadership!

📸 In Mrs. Wayne’s class at PCP, students paused to remember 9/11.
✏️ Ms. Balzer’s class at SJES decorated journals as they launch their pen pal project with Atrium’s hospital nurses.
📚 Mrs. Bilsky & Mrs. Sprouse’s kindergarteners teamed up with Mrs. Ferro’s 5th graders to read dino-count books, while Mrs. Toler’s class celebrated reaching their 20-minute reading stamina goal!
🗳️ Union Elementary’s Student Lighthouse Leadership Team held elections—students are stepping up to campaign and make a difference in their school community.
🔢 At Battleground, Mrs. Hudgins’ class had a blast exploring equal groups with hands-on activities.
🍎 Board Chair Christina Sutton visited G.E. Massey to spend time with the Child Nutrition team—one of the many cafeteria crews making magic happen every day. (Fun fact: Angie Carpenter even works on the summer movers crew!)

💡 Flashback Friday 💡
This week we’re highlighting another former LCS student who is now making an impact as an LCS staff member!

Meet Mrs. Kristen Walker Dickson — once a student at Catawba Springs, East Lincoln Middle, and East Lincoln High, and now a dedicated teacher at North Lincoln Middle. Kristen says she has so many fond memories from her time as a student, especially the joy of friends, recess, and fun-filled school days that made her happy to come to school.

She chose to return to Lincoln County Schools because it’s home. “This community poured into me and I want to do the same for our students. I love that I have the opportunity to build relationships with students every day. It is meaningful to be consistent and present in their lives and I want to help create that experience for my students.”

✨ Susan Lanier – Lincolnton High, Visual Arts

✨ Brooke Russell – North Lincoln High, Visual Arts
North Lincoln students are pushing for excellence through school beautification projects and art competitions. Their talent has already been recognized with honorable mentions in the Aviation Art Contest and at the NCASA Art Showcase state competition. 🖌️🏆

✨ Jacob Brittain – West Lincoln High, Band & AP Music Theory

The West Lincoln Concert Band has been invited to open for the Catawba College Wind Ensemble on Oct. 7 at Catawba College. 🎼

The Marching Band’s 2025 Production, “Music is Everything,” is gearing up for Friday night football and Saturday competitions.

For the first time in school history, the Marching Band will travel to Atlanta, GA, to compete in the Bands of America Southeastern Regional Competition on Nov. 1. 🎺✨

👏 We’re proud of our high school fine arts teachers and students for their creativity, excellence, and dedication to their craft. Lincoln County is shining bright through the arts!

🎨 Students in Ms. Brooke Russell’s Drawing 2 class at North Lincoln High practiced contour line drawing by observing shoes. 👟 They drew several times and overlapped the images with different colors, creating bold and dynamic line compositions. Such a fun way to turn practice into art! ✏️✨

🎶🎨 Fine Arts Spotlight: Middle School Edition 🎨🎶

Our middle school fine arts teachers are building confidence, leadership, and creativity in students across Lincoln County! Here’s a look at the incredible work happening in our band, chorus, and art programs:

✨ Jennifer Beck – East Middle, Band (6–8)
Students are stepping into leadership roles while preparing for South Central All District Band, Lincoln County All County Band, and the District Solo & Ensemble Competition in May. 🎺

✨ Bailey Beam – East Middle, Chorus & Music Through the Decades
The chorus is preparing for their Fall Concert on Sept. 30 at 6:30 PM in the ELMS gymnasium. Meanwhile, Music Through the Decades students launched the year by interviewing adults about the music that has shaped their lives — a powerful way to see how music impacts us all. 🎤

✨ Josh Belvin – Lincolnton Middle, Band (6–8) & 8th Grade Chorus
Fresh off receiving six Superior ratings last semester, students are aiming even higher this year! Band and chorus classes are preparing for a variety of performances, and a large beginning band class shows exciting growth in the program. 🎶

✨ Meghan Buckman – North Middle, Visual Arts (6–8)
Art students began the semester by making their own books! Throughout the semester, they’ll illustrate prompts tied to art elements, design principles, art history, and personal experiences. 📚🎨

✨ Jennifer Burhans – North Middle, Band (6–8)
6th graders are loving learning their new instruments, while 7th and 8th graders are preparing for the Winter Concert and All-District auditions. This spring, they’ll travel to Dollywood’s Music in the Parks Festival! 🎵🎢

✨ Tina Boyles – West Middle, Visual Arts (6–8)
8th graders are creating Art Trading Cards inspired by M. Vänçi Stirnemann. These small-scale, mixed media works encourage creativity, collaboration, and new beginnings. 🖌️

✨ Emily Lowery – West Middle, Band (6–8)
8th Grade: preparing stand tunes to play with the Rebel Regiment at the Oct. 10 home game. 🎺
7th Grade: working on minor scales and Winter Concert music. 🎶
6th Grade: building fundamental skills for their Beginning Band Informance Night on Oct. 6. 🎼

👏 We are so proud of our middle school fine arts teachers and students for the talent, leadership, and creativity they bring to Lincoln County Schools every day!

🔬✨ Science is full of mysteries waiting to be solved!

Ms. Leigh Davis’ students at Battleground Elementary explored a Mystery Science experiment to prove that matter doesn’t just disappear when we can’t see it. 💡

They dissolved tarnished copper from pennies and used the particles to transform a steel nail’s surface into copper. 🪙Students also learned that the nail isn’t all copper—just the surface!

Hands-on learning like this makes science come alive for our students! 🌟
