📚✨ Ms. Howe’s students at Rock Springs are diving into nonfiction! They’re working on identifying the main idea and supporting details—even when the main idea isn’t the very first sentence.
Students are practicing neat sentence structure and organizing their thoughts, then adding creativity with colorful illustrations and background details. 🎨📝
Using the Smart Board, the class highlights key details together and explores new vocabulary. The best part? Students LOVE these activities and the discussions that come with them! 💡💬

EAST LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL ADDRESSES
ISOLATED CASE OF TUBERCULOSIS WITH PROACTIVE MEASURES
Lincoln County Schools (LCS) is working closely with the Lincoln County Health Department and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) after being notified in the past week of an individual at East Lincoln High School (ELHS) who tested positive for active tuberculosis (TB).
The health and safety of our students, staff, and community remain a top priority. Tuberculosis is not considered immediately life-threatening nor an emergency. As a result, there is no immediate cause for concern, and individuals are not required to take any action unless the Lincoln County Health Department directly contacts them regarding potential exposure.
The Lincoln County Health Department is currently conducting a thorough investigation and will notify individuals who may have been exposed. Those who are identified as being at increased risk will be contacted and offered testing. The investigation will continue until all individuals who may have been exposed have been reached and provided with the necessary information and guidance.
For those seeking more information on tuberculosis, including symptoms, prevention, and treatment, we encourage you to visit the CDC's official TB page: CDC TB Information.
Media Inquiries
Any media inquiries related to tuberculosis or the Lincoln County Health Department’s response should be directed to Lincoln County Public Affairs Officer Vanessa Leon at (980) 745-3750.
About Lincoln County Schools

🌟 Flashback Friday 🌟
Each week we spotlight a former LCS student who has returned to serve our schools — and this week, it’s Mrs. Michaela Lamb Brooks!
Michaela attended Catawba Springs, East Lincoln Middle, and East Lincoln High. She credits her favorite teacher, Mrs. Avery, for helping her through struggles with reading and sparking a lifelong love for learning.
Today, Michaela is a Kindergarten Teacher Assistant at Iron Station Elementary — the very district that shaped her own journey. Now, as a parent, her children get to experience those same schools she once attended.
She says, “I love working with these young kids and having the opportunity to have a positive impact on my own community!” 💛

👩⚕️🧑⚕️ Hands-on learning in action at Lincoln County School of Technology!
Our Nursing Fundamentals students wrapped up their Infectious Disease Unit with some critical skill practice:
✅ Proper use of PPE (gowns, masks, eyewear, gloves)
✅ Collecting specimens under transmission-based precautions
✅ Safely disposing of equipment to prevent contamination
To put their training to the test, students even practiced removing “contaminated” gloves (with a little help from some chocolate pudding 💩🍫) — all without cross-contamination.
These real-world experiences prepare our future healthcare professionals to keep patients safe while building confidence in their skills. 👏

📚✨ Reading Buddies at Rock Springs!
Mrs. Curry’s fourth graders visited Miss Shelley’s second graders for a special reading time. 💬 The fourth graders practiced their fluency by sharing poems, while the second graders worked on accuracy by reading books to their older buddies. 📜 Happy Constitution Day!📜
Today we honor the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787 — a document that laid the foundation for our democracy and continues to shape the freedoms we enjoy today.
In classrooms across our district, students are learning about the Constitution’s lasting impact, the importance of civic responsibility, and how “We the People” have the power to keep our democracy strong.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on the rights, freedoms, and responsibilities that unite us all. 💙❤️

💡 Flashback Friday 💡
This week we’re highlighting another former LCS student who is now making an impact as an LCS staff member!
Meet Mrs. Kristen Walker Dickson — once a student at Catawba Springs, East Lincoln Middle, and East Lincoln High, and now a dedicated teacher at North Lincoln Middle. Kristen says she has so many fond memories from her time as a student, especially the joy of friends, recess, and fun-filled school days that made her happy to come to school.
She chose to return to Lincoln County Schools because it’s home. “This community poured into me and I want to do the same for our students. I love that I have the opportunity to build relationships with students every day. It is meaningful to be consistent and present in their lives and I want to help create that experience for my students.”
