Good afternoon families, this is your Principal Mrs. Beam calling with your weekly updates. First, I would like to say how proud I am of our Battle of the Books team and how hard they have been working this year. They did a wonderful job representing S Ray Lowder at the Elementary Battle of the Books competition on Friday.

On Tuesday, our 5th grade students will be taking a science check-in. Please encourage your child to do their very best on this 9 week assessment. Also on Tuesday we will have an open PTO meeting at 3:00pm in the media center - anyone is welcome to attend!

On Wednesday, our 5th grade students will attend the NC Symphony Concert at the Citizens Center. Students are expected to be on their best behavior and encouraged to dress to impress for this event.

On Friday will be our January and February Terrific Kids Ceremony. If your student was selected as a Terrific Kid, you will receive information from your child's teacher. Our K-2 ceremony is at 1:00pm and our 3-5 ceremony is at 1:40pm. Friday also kicks off Read Across America Week! Students are welcome to wear their pajamas and bring a blanket or towel where we will cozy up with a good book and have reading picnics. The reading focus for Friday is books all about families. We are excited for a fun week of reading! Be looking for a graphic with the themes each day next week.

Looking ahead, school is closed for students on Tuesday March 3rd due to many schools being used as voting sites.

Parents, due to safety and capacity concerns, if you come to eat lunch with your child you must sit at the lobby tables or the table in the cafeteria designated for parents. Parents should not sit at the student tables with the class and students who are eating lunch with parents should not invite friends to eat with them. Also remember if your child is sick, keep them home. Students should not return to school until they are fever and/or vomit free for 24 hours. There has been lots of sickness and we want to ensure we are doing our part to keep as many students healthy as possible.

I hope everyone has a wonderful afternoon - we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!
