If you saw a few extra faculty around the building, don't be fooled. Some of these students are dressed to impress as teachers today! If you see a student that looks a little too old, take a closer look, it might be a teacher dressed as a student. Tomorrow's Spirit Day is Blast from the Past, dress as your favorite decade.

October is AAC Awareness Month! AAC or Augmentative and Alternative Communication are the laminated communication boards and devices that people who are minimally or nonspeaking use to communicate. In order to learn that AAC can be their voice, children have to see adults around them “modeling” or touching the boards/devices while they talk. This teaches children that they can use AAC to ask for things and make friendships! This month staff at Love Memorial are celebrating AAC Awareness Month with a competition. Staff who use AAC with minimally and nonspeaking children are counting the number of times they model AAC and at the end of the week the staff member with the highest count will receive a prize! Generous businesses in our community have donated items and gift cards to make this event a success! Our first Love Memorial’s Next Top Modeler is…..Amanda Williams! Ms. Williams teaches an self-contained adapted exceptional children’s classroom and has been modeling ALL week long to earn this prize! Ms. Williams is supporting her students’ human right to communicate! Way to go! Our other modeling superstars this week are: Virginia Myers Carrie Oaks Melissa Wilfong Tabitha Willis Carly Lee Nicole Owensby Amy Savage Ashley Spargo Kaitlyn Cloninger Grace Goins Sarah Broome Thank you to the businesses that donated to our challenge this month! @A Freezy Tale @All You Knead Massage and Bodywork @Benny’s Boutique @Burton Farms @Court Street Grille @Fausto Coffee @Good Wood Pizzaria @Marilyn’s Sweet Addictions @Palm Berries @Pickle Fetish Co. @Scoops by the Square @Scooters Coffee (Cherryville Store) @Steer South Trading Post @The Renaissance Gipsy @Emmanuel Lutheran Church Love Memorial/Mrs. Hoffman

A note from Mrs. Grant: The story; The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds goes perfectly with our Leader in Me Habit Huddles. It teaches us we can change our paradigms and find our voice. Today we were able to bring our work to life and find our own genius within us. My class is making a mark in the world! 😃

Congratulations to this month's Terrific Kids! Each morning our students participate in Leader in Me modules where they learn about leadership of themselves and their actions. These students were chosen because they are models of these habits.

A note from Mr. Bess: My class worked on synergy this morning during habit huddle. Synergy is using the best ideas from everyone and creating even better ideas. Students were challenged to build the tallest tower possible using only items on top of their desks.

A special thank you to Riverview Baptist Church who hosted a Love Memorial Back to School Bash on Friday, September 6th at the Betty Ross Park. There was a large turnout of families and staff. We had lots of fun, fellowship and food. All you could eat hotdogs and an ice cream truck. Students played volleyball, participated in a soccer competition and enjoyed the playground. There were great prizes for the winners of the drawings and the soccer competition. This was a grand time of " Saw Sharpening" with our Cardinal community!
