Lost in the Woods: The Mystery of Roanoke!
Our 8th graders stepped back in time and into the woods to experience the mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke! Students worked together to simulate what it may have been like for the colonists to survive, communicate, solve problems, and navigate an unfamiliar environment.
Instead of just reading about history, our students experienced it firsthand—with teamwork, critical thinking, and a little adventure along the way!
Who knows…maybe our 8th graders uncovered a few clues to the mystery of Roanoke!

Learning Beyond the Classroom!
Our 6th graders had a great time learning about soil and water during an engaging presentation! They explored the importance of these natural resources, learned how they impact our everyday lives, and discovered ways we can help protect them.
It was a hands-on learning experience that brought science to life and gave our students plenty to think about!

Before diving into The Outsiders, students are exploring the sights, sounds, and culture of the 1960s in the library—the decade where this unforgettable story takes place. Now, it’s time to meet Ponyboy, the Greasers, and the Socs and discover a story filled with friendship, loyalty, conflict, and choices. Get ready, Falcons… The Outsiders is calling!

We are excited to be able to offer our 8th graders the opportunity to travel to the Outer Banks March 23-25. The total cost is $750, with the first non-refundable payment of $150 due next Friday, Sept. 4. Payments can be made by cash, check, or online. ELMS Falcons are soaring through the Leader in Me Habits! This week, students have explored the first five habits: Be Proactive, Begin With the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, and Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood.
For today’s Habit 5 lesson, students played the game Telephone to experience firsthand why listening carefully and making sure we understand others is so important. The game demonstrated what can happen when we don’t listen closely, make assumptions, or respond before we fully understand what someone is saying.
Students had a great time with the activity—and they quickly discovered that a message can change completely when we aren’t listening carefully! It was a fun and memorable way to see why seeking first to understand is an important leadership skill both in school and in everyday life.
