In a busy school day, it is often the simplest gestures that leave the biggest impact. Today, a thoughtful student stopped by Officer Rushing’s office with a special delivery—a framed photo featuring himself and a friend to display on her desk.

While our School Resource Officers spend their days focusing on safety and support, moments like this highlight the real heart of their work: building lasting, positive connections with our students. Officer Rushing’s office is now a little brighter, a little warmer, and filled with even more personality and love.

Thank you to our amazing students for reminding us that small acts of kindness truly mean the world.

The Pirate Perspective Club is closing out Attendance Awareness Month with our final feature in the "If Only You Were Here" series, celebrating the wonderful community partners who lift up Asbury Academy.

If you were on campus today, you definitely enjoyed a cool, delicious surprise! The team from Morris-Jenkins Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing brought their ice cream truck straight to Asbury Academy, serving up free ice cream for every single student and staff member.

While everyone knows their famous catchy jingle—"You’ll have cool air at your house tonight!"—today was all about cool treats on a great afternoon. We are endlessly grateful for community partners like Morris-Jenkins who step up to show our students that they belong to a broader community that cares about them just as much as our staff does.

If you own a local business—or know one—that would like to partner with Asbury Academy to support our students, please reach out to our school main office for more information on how to get involved!

Community Connections:

Beyond the Classroom: Community partnerships remind students that local businesses are actively invested in their happiness, well-being, and future success.

Positive Incentive Culture: Special events and surprise treats build a joyful school environment, celebrating consistent attendance and effort across the entire student body.

A Stronger Together Spirit: When local organizations team up with schools, it strengthens the connection between students, families, and local leaders, creating a supportive network both inside and outside our walls.

Missing school means missing out on the sweet moments, surprise visits, and community support that make Asbury Academy so special. Thank you to everyone who made Attendance Awareness Month a success—keep showing up, staying engaged, and making every day count!

People gather by a food truck on a street. Trees and parked cars are in the background.
If you walked through the front doors or down the main hallway today, you were almost certainly greeted by a warm smile and a joyful laugh from our school secretary, Mrs. Sain! Truly the glue that holds our school together, Mrs. Sain brings a bright, positive energy that sets the tone for a great day the moment you step foot on campus.

Whether she is greeting families, helping a student with a quick question, or supporting our teaching staff with even the smallest behind-the-scenes needs, Mrs. Sain works tirelessly to make sure everyone at Asbury feels cared for and supported.

The Power of Our School Secretary:

First Impressions & Connections: As the welcoming face of Asbury Academy, Mrs. Sain builds strong, trusting relationships with students and families, ensuring everyone feels valued from day one.

The Ultimate Support System: From coordinating daily schedules to jumping in whenever staff need a hand, school secretaries are the operational heart of the building, keeping daily life stress-free and organized.

The Pirate Perspective Club is back with our latest feature in the "If Only You Were Here" series, celebrating the wonderful staff members who make Asbury Academy feel like home.

If you walked through the halls today, you definitely noticed a big boost in campus energy—our beloved Assistant Principal and First Mate, Mrs. Hoyle, has officially returned from her well-deserved maternity leave! The entire Pirate crew couldn't be happier to have her back on deck.

Students spent the day catching up with her between classes, sneaking a peek at adorable baby photos, sharing lunch, and getting that extra dose of encouragement that Mrs. Hoyle always brings to our school.

The Role of an Assistant Principal:

Campus Culture Creators: Assistant principals do far more than manage daily operations; they build positive relationships, advocate for students, and help maintain a supportive environment where everyone can thrive.

Academic & Personal Guidance: From helping navigate school milestones to offering a listening ear, administrators like Mrs. Hoyle play a vital role in keeping students motivated and on track for graduation.

Strong Community Connections: School leaders set the tone for campus life. Having caring administrators visible in the hallways creates a sense of safety, belonging, and community for all students.

When you miss school, you miss out on reconnecting with the staff who are always in your corner. Show up, give Mrs. Hoyle a warm welcome back, and see what else is happening around Asbury Academy this week!

If you stepped into the science lab today, you would have seen students getting their hands messy while making Oobleck with Asbury’s very own Mrs. Davis! This quick mixture of cornstarch and water creates a fascinating substance that acts as both a solid and a liquid depending on how much pressure you apply.

Doing science experiments in person brings textbook concepts to life, transforming complex ideas into unforgettable hands-on experiences.

Science of Oobleck:

Non-Newtonian Fluid: Unlike normal liquids like water, Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid. It changes its viscosity (thickness) depending on the force applied to it—press it hard and it feels solid, but relax your hand and it flows like liquid!

Dr. Seuss Inspiration: The name "Oobleck" originates from the famous 1949 Dr. Seuss book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck, where a gooey green substance falls from the sky.

Engaged Learning: Science experiments boost critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and active participation far more than reading a textbook alone.

Missing class means missing out on the cool experiments and interactive labs that make learning fun. Show up, get your hands messy, and discover what's happening in Mrs. Davis's lab next!

If You Were Only Here you would have brightened the start of the day by challenging our favorite community servants to a fast-paced game of infinite tic-tac-toe! Students had a blast taking on our current School Resource Officer Rushing, alongside former SRO Millerstrom.

Beyond keeping our campus secure, SRO Rushing is truly dedicated to supporting the whole student. This week, she was even spotted stepping into Math 3 class to help students tackle writing equations of circles!

The Impact of School Resource Officers:

Building Trust: SROs serve as positive mentors, fostering strong, trusting relationships between law enforcement, students, and the local community.

Supporting the Whole Student: From helping out with tough math problems to sharing laughs over a game, or going for a short walk in the hallway, SROs actively engage in student life to support emotional and academic success.

Campus Safety & Mentorship: SROs combine safety expertise with daily mentorship, ensuring our school remains a secure environment where every student feels valued and protected.

When you miss school, you miss out on building meaningful connections with staff who genuinely care about your success. Don't let a rainy day keep you away—show up, dive into your classes, and see if you can beat SRO Rushing in tic-tac-toe!

"If Only You Were Here": Taking the Court with Nurse Henkle

If you stepped into the gym this week, you might have caught basketball master Nurse Henkle taking on a 3-on-1 matchup against our students! Whether she is sinking shots on the court or caring for students in her office, Nurse Henkle brings energy, dedication, and heart to our school every day.

While most people know the school nurse is there for band-aids and temperature checks, their role goes far beyond basic first aid to keep our campus running smoothly.

Nurse Henkle's Playbook:

Beyond First Aid: School nurses manage chronic conditions, coordinate emergency action plans, administer daily medications, and perform essential health screenings to ensure every student is ready to learn.

Mind & Body Connection: A school nurse provides a safe space for students experiencing stress or anxiety, supporting mental wellness right alongside physical health.

Academic Champions: Studies show that school nurses help decrease absenteeism and improve graduation rates by addressing health barriers directly in the building.

Health Educators: From promoting proper hydration and good sleep habits to encouraging active play in the gym, our nurse works daily to build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Being present at school means building connections with staff who care about your success both in and out of the classroom. Show up, get involved, and see who you might challenge in the gym next!

If Only You Were Here: Seriously...we missed you!

With today set aside for parent-teacher conferences, no students were on campus—and let's just say our principal, Mr. Grega, did not take the silence well. He was spotted around the empty hallways in a state of absolute heartbreak, heartbroken over missing the energy, smiles, and voices that bring our building to life every single day.

Because let’s face it: a school without its students is just a plain, lonely building.

Why Attendance Matters to Our Whole Community:

The Heart of Campus: A school's culture isn't made of bricks and desks; it is built by the students who fill the rooms. When students aren't here, the whole spirit of the building changes.

Connected Educators: Teachers and administrators thrive on daily interactions with students. Seeing you grow, learn, and succeed is the highlight of their day.

Back in Action Tomorrow: Mr. Grega and the entire Asbury team are eagerly counting down the hours until tomorrow, September 23rd, when everyone returns for another glorious day of learning.

Don't leave campus feeling empty! Show up tomorrow, bring your energy, and make Mr. Grega's day complete!

If you were on campus today, you would have seen our entire student body engaged in Action Crews—our dedicated daily time spent growing as individuals and team members. As a "Leader in Me" school, Asbury Academy embeds Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective Leaders into our daily routine. During Action Crew time, students dive into interactive videos, dynamic role-playing, and hands-on skill building designed to unlock every student's potential.

We believe leadership isn't just for a select few; it is a mindset meant to guide us both inside and outside the walls of our school.

Leader in Me Breakdown:

Foundation of the 7 Habits: Students learn practical habits—such as "Be Proactive," "Begin with the End in Mind," and "Put First Things First"—that teach self-discipline, time management, and goal setting.

Real-World Skill Building: Through role-playing real-life scenarios and engaging in group problem-solving, students practice communication, empathy, and conflict resolution before taking those skills out into the community and workplace.

Empowered Student Ownership: Being a Leader in Me school shifts the focus toward student-led growth. Action Crews provide a safe space where every student is encouraged to find their voice, take ownership of their future, and lead by example.

When you miss school, you miss out on the daily habit-building that sets you up for long-term personal and career success. Show up, take charge of your journey, and discover the leader within you at Asbury Academy!

The Pirate Perspective Club presents our latest feature in the "If Only You Were Here" series, celebrating the everyday heroes who make Asbury Academy a great place to be.

If you were in the cafeteria this morning, you would have been greeted by one of the most beloved faces on campus: Mrs. Stephanie! Every single day, Mrs. Stephanie welcomes students with her signature warm smile and a positive attitude that sets the tone for a successful school day.

A critical part of student success isn't just what happens in the classroom, but how students are fueled before they get there. Mrs. Stephanie works tirelessly to ensure every Pirate has the nutrition they need to focus, learn, and grow.

Mrs. Stephanie’s Nutrition Notes:

Brain Boost: Did you know that a healthy breakfast and lunch directly correlate with improved cognitive function, memory, and concentration in students? Our cafeteria menu is designed to provide balanced meals that keep young minds sharp.

More Than a Meal: For many students, the cafeteria staff are a key source of consistency and encouragement. Studies show that positive interactions with caring adults in the school environment significantly improve a student's sense of belonging and overall well-being.

Daily Dedication: Keeping up with student demand is no small feat! Our cafeteria staff prepare and serve hundreds of meals, adhering to strict nutritional guidelines while ensuring everything is delicious and ready on time.

Being present at school means taking advantage of all the support systems in place for you. Don’t miss your chance to grab a nutritious meal and a smile from Mrs. Stephanie. Show up, fuel up, and let’s make it a great day at Asbury Academy!

If Only You Were Here: Down the Rabbit Hole

The Pirate Perspective Club's first feature in the "If Only You Were Here" series, highlighting the unique experiences that make being present at Asbury Academy so special.

If you were in Mrs. Holland’s math class this week, you might have spent your study time chilling alongside two very popular guest visitors: our school rabbits, Dr. Flippins and Dottie! While their attendance record isn't quite at 100%, Doc and Dottie are dedicated team members who make a point to stop by campus once a week.

Having the bunnies in class brings a calm, welcoming energy to the room, giving students a great environment to focus, relax, and stay engaged.

Fun Bunny Facts:

Teeth & Treats: Did you know rabbits have 28 teeth—the same number as an adult human without wisdom teeth? Their teeth grow continuously throughout their lives, so Doc and Dottie rely on an endless supply of fresh Timothy hay to keep them naturally filed down.

Bonding & Binkies: Rabbits are exceptionally social animals, and a group of them is called a fluffle! They communicate by thumping their hind legs or making soft grunting sounds. When they feel pure joy, they perform a twisting leap in the air called a binky.

Always Watching: Positioned on the sides of their head, a rabbit's eyes give them nearly 360-degree vision with only a tiny blind spot directly in front of their nose. They can even sleep with their eyes open, resting with closed eyelids only when they feel 100% safe.

Don't miss out on special campus moments like this—be sure to show up, stay engaged, and see what "extras" are waiting for you at school each week!

Today, the students and staff at Asbury Academy came together to observe the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

At 8:46 AM, the entire school paused for a quiet moment of silence to honor and remember the lives lost on that day. Following the observance, Asbury Academy’s own Mrs. Davis shared a deeply personal presentation with our community. She reflected on her firsthand experience as a high school senior living in Rutherford, New Jersey, describing what that morning and its aftermath were like for her and her family.

Her testimony provided our students with a powerful, living connection to history, reminding us all of the strength, unity, and resilience that define our community.
