Our Asbury Academy students recently traded the classroom for some hands-on experience at the Be Pro Be Proud NC mobile workshop!

This was an incredible opportunity for our students to explore high-demand technical careers through state-of-the-art simulators. From heavy equipment operation and commercial driving to plumbing and welding, our crew got a front-row seat to the skills that power our economy.

At Asbury Academy, we are committed to showing our students that there are many different paths to a successful and fulfilling career. Seeing them engage with these trade professions helps bridge the gap between their high school credits and their future goals.

A huge thank you to the Be Pro Be Proud NC team for bringing these career possibilities to life and helping our students see the "pro" they can become!

It is National Assistant Principal Week, and we are setting sail to celebrate our very own "School Treasure," Mrs. Hoyle!

Mrs. Hoyle works incredibly hard every day to lead our crew at Asbury Academy. Whether she is helping students stay on track for graduation or supporting our teachers and staff, her dedication is the compass that keeps us moving in the right direction. We are so lucky to have such a creative, supportive, and hardworking leader at the helm of our school.

Thank you, Mrs. Hoyle, for all you do to make Asbury Academy a place where every student can succeed!

Why we appreciate Mrs. Hoyle:

  • Leadership: Guiding our students and staff with a smile.

  • Dedication: Putting in the work to ensure Asbury Academy is the best it can be.

  • Spirit: Bringing a fun and energetic "Pirate" pride to our campus every single day.

An AI-generated, stylized portrait of a smiling woman identified as the Assistant Principal of Asbury Academy. She is depicted as a pirate, wearing a black pirate hat with a skull and crossbones and a red bandana. She is wearing a black t-shirt that says "Asbury Pirates" with a skull and crossed cutlasses logo. A colorful parrot is perched on her shoulder. The background features a tropical island setting with a pirate ship, a treasure chest overflowing with gold coins, and bottles of "Crush" orange soda. A wooden sign in the foreground reads "Asbury Academy Assistant Principal".

It was a true team effort as our students and staff joined forces to beautify the campus, and the results are truly blooming! Everyone worked hard, from prepping the soil to planting, showing what we can achieve together. Check out the "before and after" of their dedicated work in this collage!

Our Asbury Academy students traded the classroom for the factory floor this week with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Timken Lincolnton Bearing Plant!

From the moment we hopped on the bus, the excitement was high. The day started with an engaging deep dive into how Timken’s world-class engineered bearings power everything from renewable energy to space exploration.

The Highlight Reel:

  • Safety First: We geared up with safety glasses and earplugs to head deep into the manufacturing zone.

  • Real-World Engineering: Students saw massive machinery in action and learned about the precision required to keep the world moving.

  • Career Connections: We met with the incredible Timken team to discuss local career paths, from skilled trades and CNC machining to mechanical engineering and leadership.

A huge thank you to the staff at Timken for opening your doors and inspiring the next generation of problem solvers. It’s amazing to see the global impact happening right here in our own backyard!

On the left side, a young man with dark hair and a mustache smiles broadly, leaning against the seat. Further back, others are scattered throughout the bus, some looking toward the camera and others looking away. Background: The aisle leads to the back of the bus, where an "EMERGENCY DOOR" sign is visible. Through the windows on both sides, a parking lot and some green bushes can be seen under bright, natural daylight. Setting: The bus interior features metal luggage racks running along both sides of the ceiling and large rectangular windows that fill the space with light.
This image is a view from inside a vehicle, likely a bus, looking out of the passenger-side window at an industrial sign. Detailed Image Description Foreground: The bottom and right edges of the frame show the interior window seal and a large, vertical side-view mirror of the vehicle. The Sign: In the center of the frame stands a tall, dark green rectangular sign for TIMKEN. The company name is at the top in large, orange-gold block letters. Below a thin horizontal line, smaller white text reads "Lincolnton Bearing Plant" and "1000 Timken Place" at the very bottom. The sign sits in a small circular mulch bed bordered by grey stones on a green lawn. Background: Beyond the sign is a paved road lined with a metal guardrail. In the distance, there are rolling green hills, a small wooden structure (possibly a well or shed), and several leafless deciduous trees, suggesting early spring or late fall. Setting: The scene is brightly lit by daylight, capturing a suburban industrial area in Lincolnton.
This photo shows a group of young adults gathered in a circle inside an industrial plant, listening to an employee. Detailed Image Description Foreground: In the lower center, a person with blonde hair tied in a small ponytail wears a light blue hoodie, seen from the back. To the right, an older man with a grey beard and glasses listens intently, also seen partially from the side. Middle Ground: An employee, a middle-aged man with short grey hair and glasses, stands in the center-right. He wears a navy blue TIMKEN work shirt, an orange undershirt, and yellow earplugs. He is gesturing with his hands as he speaks. The Group: Surrounding the speaker are several young adults from the previous photos. They are all wearing clear safety glasses and earplugs. Notable individuals include the young man in the red jacket and NASA t-shirt and the young man with the patterned buzz cut. Background: The setting is the factory floor, featuring a yellow cinder block wall and a high ceiling with exposed pipes and industrial light fixtures. To the left, a piece of heavy machinery with bright yellow safety railings is visible. Setting: The lighting is bright and functional. The group's focused expressions suggest a high level of engagement during the tour.
This photo shows the group continuing their walking tour through a long corridor of the industrial facility. Detailed Image Description Foreground: On the far left, the woman in the leopard-print hoodie is partially visible in profile. The shadows of the photographer and other group members are cast on the dark grey concrete floor in the lower center. Middle Ground: The students and chaperones are walking in a loose line toward the back of the facility. Visible members include a young woman in a tan "Aero" hoodie and ripped jeans, a young woman in a black "Champion" hoodie, and the young man with the patterned buzz cut wearing a black Carhartt jacket. All continue to wear clear safety glasses. Further back, an older man in a grey pullover and several other individuals follow behind. Background: To the left is a tall, yellow cinder block wall. Above, a complex system of industrial pipes, conduits, and light fixtures runs the length of the ceiling. To the right, various pieces of machinery and yellow safety railings line the walkway, extending deep into the background of the factory floor. Setting: The perspective emphasizes the scale of the facility, with the long lines of the wall and ceiling pipes creating a sense of depth. The lighting is bright and industrial.

Ahoy, Mateys! Our Asbury Academy crew had a treasure-filled adventure for Read Across America week at Battleground Elementary! We sailed in to share a special story—and the laughter was louder than a cannon blast!

Our incredible students paired up with the younger kids to share the magic of "The Book with No Pictures"—which, as we discovered, can get pretty silly. After the reading, the students put their imaginations to work.

Take a peek at these pics to see:

The reading mentorship in action! Our students leaning in, guiding the fun as the younger kids dove into their creative responses.

Collaborative coloring power! Our older students and Battleground Elementary kids working together at the tables, turning blank pages into colorful masterpieces to illustrate their interpretation of the book.

The proud smiles of success! A triumphant final photo with everyone (teachers, mentors, and the incredible young readers) showing off the beautiful artwork they created.

What a rewarding day of community, leadership, and literacy! We can’t wait for our next adventure!

Focus, determination, and progress are on full display in the SAVE program as these students work diligently to earn their credits and achieve their high school diplomas. Whether they are diving into digital assignments on their laptops or tackling coursework at their tables, every minute spent in this classroom is a vital step closer to graduation. We are incredibly proud of the grit and hustle these students show in this focused environment as they build the habits today that will lead to a bright and successful future.

Today, Asbury Academy students attended an Asbury Works session with Kennan Eady to learn more about personality with True Colors training. Students learned how each of us has a different and unique personality but we have common ground we share. Learning more about ourselves can help us build better relationships when we interact with others.

⚓ Remembering Pearl Harbor, December 7th, is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. On this day in 1941, an unprovoked attack on the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, tragically took the lives of 2,403 American service members and civilians and propelled the United States into World War II. We take this moment to honor the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of the more than 3,500 people who were killed or wounded on that "date which will live in infamy."

Mrs. Beckham and Asbury Academy have been awarded the Rutherford EMC Bright Ideas Grant to expand student learning in our school greenhouse!

Thanks to this funding, students will be able to plan, plant, and harvest their own crops this spring. The grant will help purchase raised beds and seeds to support hands-on, real-world learning experiences.

Teachers in both math and science classes will incorporate the greenhouse into their instruction—using planting, growing, and harvesting activities to bring math and science content to life for students.

Our students have loved working in the garden this school year, and we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next!
