Instead of a single person, the Newsletter Crew is spotlighting Union's Archery Club! We sat down with and interviewed Jordan Lingerfelt and Carter Rice, two 5th graders and members of this popular club at Union! This club premiered just this year, and it is composed of 4th and 5th graders. They meet the first 2 Mondays of every month after school in the gym. Carter recommends people joining because it's fun and requires specific skills and perseverance. According to Jordan and Carter, they both enjoy seeing their friends and shooting the bow and arrows. Want to hear something cool? Jordan has hit the bull's eye three times! But, according to them, you don't always want to hit the bull's eye. The main goal we learned from them is to get all your arrows in a cluster. That definitely requires some strong hand-eye coordination! For this sport, you must follow a set of steps. There are eleven total steps just to shoot one arrow! That is a lot to master! We have learned that this is a fun and exciting sport, and if you're in third grade, you should consider joining the Archery Club next school year! Chief Writer: Darcy Brewster. Photos include students practicing archery in a gym, a large group photo of the archery club, and a portrait of the student writer.

Four people are gathered in an outdoor courtyard area of a brick school building on a sunny day. The courtyard features a ground cover of light-colored river stones and several circular red metal picnic tables with attached benches. To the left, a woman in a long denim dress stands by a table holding papers. In the center, two men in casual attire (one in a black polo and one in a grey quarter-zip) stand near another table, talking and holding coffee cups. A woman in a white shirt and dark pants stands with her back to the camera at a central table, appearing to organize materials. In the foreground, a long red bench sits alongside a concrete walkway. A small, budding tree stands to the right, and the sun shines brightly from the upper center of the frame, casting long shadows across the gravel.
A group of seven people stands together for a photo in a school hallway. From left to right: a man in a black baseball cap and navy button-down, a woman in a long denim dress, a tall man in a black polo shirt and jeans, a man in a grey quarter-zip sweater, a man in a blue patterned blazer, an elderly woman in a black coat holding a cane, and a woman in a lavender top and grey vest. Most of the individuals are wearing red nametags. They are positioned in front of a brick wall featuring a built-in trophy case and a digital clock displaying 9:16 AM, Mon, Mar 30. To the left, a mural on the wall includes the text "to the Piedmont" and "to the Coast." The group appears to be at a community or school event, with some holding papers or folders.
A close-up of a commemorative plaque mounted on a metal stake, situated in a bed of smooth river stones at the base of a tree. The plaque is black with a silver border and white text. The text on the plaque reads: Union Courtyard est. 2025 Made possible by the generosity of: RE/MAX Crossroads—Will Poteat Wise Landscaping—David Wise Turner Houser Insurance—Jamie Houser Edward Jones—Brent Reynolds Barbara S. Houser in Memory of Katherine DiBernardo Chip and Camille Sain in Honor Shelly McConnell In the background, the sun casts a warm glow on the tree trunk and the surrounding courtyard area.
A large group of eight adults and eight children pose for a photo in a sunny outdoor courtyard. The adults stand in a row in the back, while the children are seated on a bench in front of them. The courtyard features a ground of light-colored river stones and red metal picnic tables. On the table in the foreground, there is a large handmade "Thank You" poster decorated with colorful drawings and flowers, along with a white cup and a few personal items. The group is positioned against the brick and siding of a school building. Many of the adults are wearing the same red nametags seen in previous photos, suggesting a community dedication or "thank you" event for the Union Courtyard, likely involving the donors and students.
Mark those calendars! There will be no school April 3rd-10th due to observing spring break.
