Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Rhoda Maynard-Yoder

I have been the LMS AIG specialist for the last 11 years of my almost 20 years of teaching. Many students feel that my class is very different from other classrooms.  I strive to create a family atmosphere since I have most of my students for their entire middle school career.  My teaching philosophy embraces creative learning, divergent, and critical thinking.  After winning a grant for Chromebooks, my classes use digital tools to create real-world products.  No paper in this class!  GIFTED doesn't mean more work, but different work  Don't be surprised if you are asked to build a website, create a VR project, or make a fake social media account for a character or a Bitmoji for a Book Snap.

I got my undergrad degree at Lenoir-Rhyne where I attended Harlaxton College in England and the Vergilian Society in Cumae, Italy.  I love to travel and plan trips with my family frequently. I have a Master's of Education in Gifted Education from Western Carolina University and I am a National Board Certified.

My immediate family consists of my husband, Jeff, Elizabeth, college-girl, Noah, a high-schooler (God, bless us!), and my fur-babes, Rory and Bella. My mother lives about a mile from me and my brother and niece live in Ashe county.

On a personal note, I adore coffee and chocolate, and I am passionate about my flower garden.  Most spring weekends you find me working in my flower beds and arranging fresh flowers for my kitchen table.  I am a country girl at heart who loves playing in the dirt.   I enjoy going to live theater, the symphony and creating lavish family dinners.
