• Tardy to School
The instructional day at North Brook Elementary School is 8:00 AM to 2:40 PM.  Our staff is dedicated to using every instructional moment of the school day to benefit student learning.  We strongly believe that students do their best when they arrive to school on time and maintain a consistent routine.  Coming into class late can embarrass a child and make him/her feel left out.  We realize there are occasional circumstances which make it necessary for students to arrive late to school.  A tardy slip will be issued to all students arriving after 8:00 AM.  Students arriving to school late must bring a note and a parent/guardian must come into the school office to check the child in.  Administrators will monitor tardies, conference with parents, and report tardies to the school social worker.

Morning Arrival and Afternoon Dismissal for Car Riders
Please drop your child off in front of the building at the main doors.  A staff member will be there to greet your child and direct him/her to the cafeteria.  Students may arrive at school at 7:30 AM.  Staff members will be at the main doors from 7:30 AM until 8:00 AM.  Between 7:30 AM and 7:50 AM, students may eat breakfast in the cafeteria.  Students arriving after 7:50 AM may report to the cafeteria to pick up their breakfast prior to transitioning to their classroom.  Students must arrive prior to the tardy bell at 8:00 AM if they wish to eat breakfast at school.

Please be cooperative by waiting your turn in the car rider line.  The parking lot areas are for teacher and visitor parking, and for buses; absolutely no dropping off or picking up of students in these parking lots.

In the afternoons, parents are to remain in their vehicles.  The car rider line is two lanes prior to the entrance of the teacher parking lot.  All cars must merge to one lane prior to proceeding around the pick-up circle.  All parents must have a school issued car rider tag with your child’s name placed in the front window of your vehicle.  Staff members will be on duty to assist students getting into vehicles.  Parents are not allowed to stand in front or back entrances, in the lobby of the school, in the office, or at the classroom in the hallway for student dismissal.  For the safety of our students, we need to recognize with whom each child is leaving.  All students must be picked up by 3:00 PM.  Early check out between 2:20 and 2:40 is discouraged.  During this time the office staff is extremely busy ensuring that all students get home safely and in the appropriate manner.  Please be prepared to show an appointment card upon check out or kindly wait your turn in the car rider line.  All students must be signed out in the school office if picked up and not placed in a vehicle by a North Brook Elementary staff member.

    Leaving Early
North Carolina law states that it is the parent/guardian’s duty to ensure that a child attends school for the entire day.  However, if you child must be checked out early please send a note to your child’s teacher.  Parents/guardian’s must report to the school office for early checkout.  Parents will not be permitted to pick up a child from the classroom.  The secretary will call your child from their class for early dismissal.  Students will not be allowed to leave with anyone who is not listed as a contact, unless special written notification is received.

Please remember that instructional time is extremely important.  At the end of the day, teachers are summarizing the day’s activities and assigning homework.  Students may not be checked out between the times of 2:20-2:40 PM.  Please do not come into the building to wait on your child at the end of the school day.  Please join the car rider line to pick up your child.

    Changes in Afternoon Transportation
Please send a note to your child’s teacher if your child is to travel home a different way.  In the note please include the child’s first and last name, the bus number (if known), 911 address or stop, and the date the student needs this transportation change to begin and end.  Please give telephone numbers where you can be reached if additional information is needed.  NO PHONE CALLS WILL BE ACCEPTED.  We cannot always properly identify individual’s voices over the telephone.  We want to make sure that your child leaves the building with the appropriate adult or rides the bus home to the correct location.  Please make sure that your child knows how he/she is getting home in the afternoon.  Due to overcrowding on buses and safety concerns students are only allowed to ride his or her assigned bus.  Children cannot be left alone or dropped off alone at a bus stop.

    Bus Transportation
The Lincoln County Board of Education has adopted new and stricter policies to improve your child’s opportunity for bus transportation.  These guidelines are based on the premise that, since the bus driver has his/her back to the children and misbehavior can lead to traffic events, the parent has the primary responsibility to assure that his/her child remains seated, follows instructions, and behaves in an acceptable manner.  Please impress upon your child the importance of proper bus behavior.  A School Bus Conduct and Safety form will be sent home with all students.  Please complete the form and return to your child’s teacher within the first ten days of school.  Riding the bus is a privilege which can be denied due to safety.
