Hello, my name is David J. Jones. I taught Social Studies curriculums for twenty-five years at Havelock High School. During which time, I gained experience teaching American History I and II (and Honors in both), World History, World History Honors, Civics, and African American History. During my time at Havelock High School, I created a sound-based, research-driven classroom that provides students with the greatest opportunity for success. This was possible by using a collaborative learning environment, where students are tasked with helping others discover the amazing world of History. During this time, I saw great success in the classroom. A large part of my success was due to how committed I am to providing a 21st century-based classroom. It has also allowed me to build a rapport with both my students and their parents (many of whom I also taught). I moved up here from Atlantic Beach a couple of years ago. I have taught at Lincolnton High School and now I am here at North Lincoln…and very excited about beginning the new year. Currently, I teach CTE Business and Information Technology Classes, which is an area of study that I am not just trained for, but in which I also have “real world” experience. I have created multiple curriculums and am very familiar with utilizing the Canvas computer application. In addition, I am versed in many other computer-based applications. Among those are: Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel, Gimkit, G-Metrix, MBA Learning Center, Quizlet, and GCF Global Tutorials…just to name a few. Examples of classes that I have taught are: Business Essentials, Business Management I, Career Management, and various Microsoft courses (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel). I am well versed in Baldridge, Kagan, and Marzano PDSA teaching techniques. I am also a winner of the Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction Award for 2016 and am member in good standing of the National Society of High School Scholars. In addition, I am my school’s PENC representative. I am also a member of the Phi Alpha Theta and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Societies. I have an Associate’s Degree in Business and Finance from Lenoir Community College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have a History Degree and my Teaching Certification from East Carolina University. I am also an Apple and Windows Certified Teacher. I am also the sponsor of our school’s D&D and Game Modding Club.
