Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Kristen Quinn
Hi Families! My name is Kristen Quinn. I am so happy to be at St. James Elementary School for my second year as an EC teacher. My family and I moved from Long Island, NY last summer and we love living in North Carolina. My husband Patrick is a retired New York City police officer. When he retired, we started looking for a place where we would be able to spend more time together as a family. We chose Denver for its exceptional schools, town charm, and beautiful Lake Norman. I love living and working in Denver, and am honored to continue to be a part of the St. James family.
I have two sons and one daughter. Michael and Emma attend St. James Elementary and my youngest son, Andrew, will become a Knight in a few more years. We also have a cat named Angelica Marie (Angie for short) and a golden retriever named Maggie.
I have been teaching Exceptional Children for over 13 years. I graduated from Dowling College in New York with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology, and then decided to become a teacher. I continued going to college and received a dual Masters Degree in Elementary and Special Education in 2005. When I began my teaching career, I worked in a small public school on the east end of Long Island. While there, I successfully educated students in grades K-8, fostered wonderful connections with students and families, and pursued multiple opportunities for professional growth. I received Wilson Reading System Certification in 2013 and have enjoyed helping children learn helpful strategies to become better readers. I enjoy working with students to improve upon their math skills, using hands-on learning experiences and manipulatives. I am also currently pursuing National Board Certification as an Exceptional Needs Specialist.
My main goal as your child’s EC teacher is to maintain an open line of communication. Please contact me with any questions you have, important events that happen in your family, and concerns you have about your child. I am always here to support you and you child. I look forward to a wonderful 2020-2021 school year!
