    Parents and students,

    I am hoping you all picked up the 1st set of packets that will get you through March 30th. You will start on your 2nd packet on March 31, those are ready for pick-up. It is important for students to continue to practice reading on their reading level. The packets have materials on each individual reading level. The packets contain the main areas of reading we work on each day. So none of it is new. I will continue to post lessons on this site each day, Monday- Friday. Please do a lesson each day and email me when you complete each lesson. 

    I will be posting lesson videos each day. Some of the videos will be for ALL  MY STUDENTS, but many of them will be specific to the GROUP time that students come to me each day.

    My Friday Writing Group will be specifically labeled. Writing videos will be posted one time a week.

    From the learning packets:

    Fluency sheets: Read each sheet 3 times. Time for 1 minute each read. 

    Reading Comprehension: Read the Read Around the Word Book from our folder. Students turn those in on Fridays, so I have those in the office for them, as well as the rest of their learning packet. Read for 10 to 15 minutes and retell after reading.

     

    Vocabulary: This will be found on quizlet.com

    Directions for getting on quizlet

    -I have put our vocabulary for the End of Grade ELA test on Quizlet. My students know how to use this site. 

    -It will keep prompting you to sign in, but you do not need to make a login, Students know to keep closing that box when it appears asking them to login. Follow the directions below. 

    -Students need to practice: 

     EOG Vocabulary 3rd grade 

     EOG Vocabulary 4th  grade

    EOG Vocabulary 5th grade

    -If your child is in 3rd grade have them practice the 3rd grade list only.

    -If your child is in 4th grade have them practice the 3rd and 4th grade lists.

    -If your child is in 5th grade have them practice all 3 lists.

    -These are cumulative year to year. In other words, if students are in 5th grade they will see words from the 3rd and 4th grade vocabulary lists.

    Students need to practice with flashcards then do all the activities listed below for each list: ( do this daily if you have wifi/computer/smartphone)

    You can download the quizlet app on a phone, students will need to sign in with google when prompted and create a username (they all have google emails through school). Then the above directions can be followed on a smartphone.

This year I will begin my 18th year of teaching; my 15th year with Lincoln County Schools teaching Special Education. I have a love for reading and a passion to teach struggling readers. I believe reading is the key to being successful in all academic areas and in life. My husband is a librarian, and both of my children have always enjoyed reading books together. We have always made it a family priority to build a love for reading.

I look forward to working with my students at Battleground Elementary this school year. This is going to be a great year for our school.
