Assistant Principal  Curriculum & Instruction                          mstewart@lincoln.k12.nc.us

It is an honor to serve as assistant principal to the fine students, parents, and faculty of North Lincoln High School. It has been a blessing and joy to have spent over 25 years in education, watching teaching styles, expectations, demands, and students evolve over the years. Despite these changes, the focus remains the same: Safe and orderly learning environments that challenge students to discover, question, and learn from excellent teachers who hold them to the highest expectations.

I am married to a wonderful wife of 23 years, Diane, who is a media coordinator at Sharon Elementary School in Iredell-Statesville Schools, and have three wonderful sons: Matthew (17), Jacob (13), and Benjamin (11). I also claim a beagle, Bingo, and ten chickens as part of the family.

My teaching experience includes stops at Southwestern Randolph Middle and High Schools (1 year), North Stokes Jr. and Sr. High School (2 years), South Iredell High School (12 years),Newton-Conover High School (6 1/2 years), and North Lincoln (4+ years). I am a two-time National Board certified teacher in Adolescent Young Adult/English Language Arts, and AP certified for English Language and Compostion and Literature and Composition, having taught every level of English from eighth grade through twelfth, basic to inclusion to honors to AP, but my favorites have always been world literature (10th Grade) and American Lit. (12th grade). I have also taught Spanish I, II, III, world history, psychology, sociology, Journalism I, yearbook, and newspaper. As newspaper advisor at South Iredell, the school publication The SouthWind captured over 200 journalism awards in my eleven years as advioser, including one award for best publication in NC schools. At Newton-Conover High School, I worked with my students to restart a school newspaper after over a decade of being absent. That publication, The Red Devils' Advocate, captured nearly 100 awards in my five years as advisor. I have been a head coach for high school cross country, men's tennis, jv boys' basketball, jv girls' basketball, and varsity girls' basketball. I have served as an assistant coach in football, varsity men's basketball, football, and softball. I have driven a school bus on a regular basis since my junior year in high school, and worked on school painting and moving crews in the summer. As an administrator, I have been assistant principal at South Iredell High School and the middle and high school curriculum specialist for Newton-Conover City Schools. I served as assistant principal of admiinistration here at North from 2015-2017 before moving into curriculum and instruction.

While each stop along the way has offered its own unique challenges, the expectations of each district's stakeholders are the same: each expects the best for its kids.

The communities that comprise North Lincoln High School expect the same, and the teachers and administration are here to meet those expectations. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, or to offere praise to an outstanding teacher or student you feel needs recognition. Our teachers and administrators are expected to challenge themselves in addition to students, and they in turn need such praise when it is earned.

Some of my duties and responsibilites as assistant principal include monitoring and addressing issues surrounding classroom curriculum and instruction, facilitation and monitoring of PLCs, classroom walkthroughs, Section 504 students and plans, English, world languagues, and social studies departments, extracurricular game/gate/performance duties, school safety, testing, and 10th grade discipline. Do not hesitate to contact me about any other need in addition to these.

Again, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your fine community and the Lincoln County School family.
