Mrs. Emily Kerley
Mrs. Kerley is currently entering her fifth year as the Media Specialist at Pumpkin Center Primary School. Mrs. Kerley received her Bachelor of Music degree from Gardner-Webb University and her Masters of Library Science degree from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Kerley has been an educator in North Carolina since 2005.

*In past years Mrs. Kerley has been a recipient of Walmart Community Grants, and additional Lowes Education Toolkbox Grants and Donors Choose Grants.
Mrs. Kerley currently serves on the School Improvement Team at Pumpkin Center Primary School. She is the Webmaster and keeps our community up to date on the Twitter platform. Mrs. Kerley recently completed her first year as a Donors Choose Teacher Ambassador. She would be happy to help you write a Donors Choose grant. Mrs. Kerley is also an L3 Lincoln Learning Leaders Chohort 1 member for the 2019-2020 school year. This program will create model spaces for digital teaching and learning in our school.
Mrs. Kerley was selected into the Emerging Leaders program with the North Carolina School Library Media Association during the 2013-2014 school year. Mrs. Kerley continues to be an active member and advocated for School Library funding per pupil allotment and a (076) certified School Librarian in every North Carolina Public School this past spring at our state capital with NCSLMA and NCLA members.
Mrs. Kerley works with the Lincoln County Public Library to bring STEM experiences to our students. She also coordinates visits from the Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation.
Goals for the 2019-2020 School Year
*Transform the School Media Center into a Learning Commons to create a space for digital teaching and learning in our school.
*Begin an after school Wonder League Robotics Club in collaboration with the Lincoln County Public Library.
*Teach students how to use green screen and video based applications that will encourage them to create, collaborate, communicate and share their what they have learned through book talks and reports on common core topics.
*Co-Teach Lessons once a month with each grade level across the school enviroment.
*Decrease the amount of outdated books in the Media Center from 56%-46%.
*Write grants and begin "In Memory" or "In Honor" school programs to increase the amount of books "from 2014 and newer" from 10% to 15%.
Diversity is very important to Mrs. Kerley. This year students will learn about different cultures though realistic fiction, non-fiction, and fairy tales, fables, and legends. Mrs. Kerley is excited about spending her 15th year as an educator working with outstanding students and staff at Pumpkin Center Primary.

Mrs. Kerley's interests outside of school include spending time with her husband and children, reading picture books, and attending fall festivals. She is also active in the Autism Society of North Carolina Catawba Valley Chapter and enjoys taking part in Walkin' Roll Activities League Inc. events with her daughter. Mrs. Kerley also enjoys listening to National Public Radio (NPR) and learning about peoples' lives all over the world. She is also interested in exploring and learning about Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and beginning coding.
