Welcome to Manufacturing

  • This page is dedicated to provide information about our class.  Notes, test information, and upcoming events will be posted on our Google Classroom page.

The Manufacturing course will explore manufacturing systems and processes. Students will use industry standard 3D design software to create parts, learn about rapid prototyping, 3D printing, and concurrent engineering.

    Units to be covered:

Unit 1: Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing

In today’s world, we are surrounded by countless products of all descriptions, including a wide range of items such as food, household appliances and automobiles. The availability of these products, as well as their affordability, have advanced due to the ever-improving methods of manufacturing.

Manufacturing provides us with the items we need and also plays an important role in the economy. In this unit, you will be introduced to many of the basic concepts central to modern manufacturing technology.

    Unit 2: Rapid Prototyping

In this unit you will explore aspects of prototyping including their purpose, types, and various building techniques. Particular attention will be given to modern prototyping technologies collectively referred to as Rapid Prototyping.

    Unit 3: CAD Programming

In this section you will learn the different types of prototypes and their relation to the engineering design cycle and concurrent engineering.
In this unit, you will learn how to use spectraCAD software to create a part design and convert it into a manufacturing program. In this first activity you will be introduced to some of the basic concepts of CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing). You will also take your first steps in exploring spectraCAD software.
