Applying to college is a complicated process, so The College Board created a program that guides you through it. This scholarship program is open to all students and it doesn't require an essay, application, or minimum GPA. Instead, it rewards your effort and initiative. NC Governor's School
The North Carolina Governor's School is a 5½-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two college campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and does not involve credit, tests, or grades. This is the nation’s oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted high school students. The program is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas. Download the student application and recommendation form to apply. TEEN COURT:
Lincoln County has established "Teen Court" and is seeking responsible high school students to serve on the jury and possibly serve as "lawyers" or representatives to teens being referred to the Teen Court. It is an incredible opportunity for anyone considering Law School or Criminal Justice in their future. It will look great on applications. The nice thing about this court system is that schools and law enforcement can refer students to this court and it will not go on their permanent record if they complete the actions assigned to them by the Teen Court. The Court will meet monthly on a Tuesday evening at the Court House in Lincolnton. To apply, download the application and informational handout and return to the address included on the application. NCSSM Summer Accelerator Program: Summer Accelerator is offered at NCSSM's campus in Durham, Brevard College in western North Carolina, and Barton College in eastern NC. Accelerator courses for 10th - 12th graders are conducted over three weeks. The first two weeks of each course take place virtually, at the student's own pace. The third week of each course takes place on campus, either in Durham or Brevard, NC. Click here for more information and to apply online.
Living Your Legacy Leadership Summit for Girls: Western Carolina University June 14-20This residential summit will help prepare girls for college, career, relationships, and living a healthy life.
Girls who attend the Summit will:
- Learn and practice new definitions of health, happiness, and success that lowers stress and builds confidence to be themselves no matter the challenge.
- Gain clarity around their passions and purpose and learn how to vision map and take powerful steps in reaching their college, career and life goals.
- Practice decision making, conflict resolution and communication skills with peers and adults so they feel confident even when they’re upset and feel that things are not working.
- Experience and grow their public speaking and presentation skills so they learn to speak from their heart and be less nervous.
- Participate in empowering and fun activities like hiking, yoga, white water rafting, ropes course, self-expressive arts, and more.
- Design and present a purposeful service project that sets them on a path for lifelong contribution.

The Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program is a hands-on learning experience. Students dive deep into a field of study with access to world-class faculty, researchers, and industry professionals. Click here for more information and to apply online.Clemson University Summer Scholars Program: Educational, recreational, and cultural activities allow participants to experience some of the amazing opportunities Clemson University has to offer. Students will engage in hands-on, immersive courses in their field of choice taught by Clemson instructors during the day. Afternoons include free time which can be spent exploring campus, attending a campus tour, or meeting a representative from Admissions or Calhoun Honors College. Evenings feature many of the recreational activities Clemson students enjoy, including bowling at The Underground, swimming at Fike Recreation Center, and a cookout on the beach at beautiful Lake Hartwell. Participants stay in a residence hall and eat meals in a dining hall throughout the week to complete their on-campus experience. Current Clemson students serve as counselors to guide, mentor, and answer questions about life as a Tiger.Rising 7th-12th grade students up to age 17 will enjoy this one-week introduction to college subjects while being immersed in the culture of Clemson University. NC State SATELLITE (Science And Technology Enriching Lifelong Leadership In Tomorrow’s Endeavors) is an exciting five-day adventure at North Carolina State University for selected HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORES. During the program, SATELLITE scholars are exposed to a wide range of N.C. State's science and technology resources while exploring future educational and career opportunities in a variety of fields. Scholars also get a feel for the college experience--living in student dorms, attending lectures, hands-on laboratories, and interactive demonstrations led by faculty and staff, and participating in various cultural and enrichment activities. NC State STEP (Summer Textile Exploration Program):The Wilson College of Textiles Summer Textile Exploration Program (STEP) consists of five one-week sessions for rising high school seniors interested in learning about the textile industry, fashion, engineering, polymer science and business marketing. Up to 30-35 students per week are chosen based on their academic success, interest in NC State Wilson College of Textiles, and extracurricular activities.
