Mrs. Holly Cook

Hello St. James Family,

When I think about who I am, I wonder if I can put it all into words.  Don't we all wear many different hats depending on the situation?  The three most important "hats" that I wear are as a wife, mother and teacher.  I have been happily married to my husband, Jeff, for 20 years and we have three amazing little girls that are ages fourteen, eleven and nine.  Yes, we do have a busy, but fun-filled life.  All three of our girls play softball, so if I am not at home or at school, we are on the softball field.  As a mother. I love to see my own children's eyes twinkle when they learn something new.  That desire to see a "twinkle" carries over into my teaching career.

I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school.  My mom taught high school and I was honored to see how she affected the lives of her students.  Therefore, my teaching adventure began when I graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 1998.  Wow, to say that it was over 25 years ago is amazing.  Time does fly.  I began my career at CMS and loved teaching so much that I went back for a Master's Degree.  When the opportunity to open St. James Elementary became available in 2003, I jumped at the chance to be a part of this child-loving school district and school.  During that time, I taught both First and Kindergarten.  I can say that I have truly seen A LOT of "twinkles" in the eyes of my students.  I love to see how they grow by leaps and bounds both academically and socially.  They are going to grow up to become citizens with JOY for the future.

Now that all three of our girls are moving along their educational paths much too quickly, my passion for teaching has become stronger.  My husband and my desire for our children is to have an education that provides a loving, nurturing environment with teachers who are able to encourage them to be well rounded both academically and socially.  With that in mind, I strive to engage my students' learning with that same philosophy.  Push when we need to be pushed and hug when we need a hug.  Their future love for learning is in our hands.
